Getting your My Debt Plan completion certificate

My Debt Plan says that after your final payment the IVA 'is closed and reviewed', and that 'this process can take several weeks or even a few months'. Until then, it says, the IVA is 'effectively completed, but not yet formally closed'.

Once everything is checked and finalised, the insolvency practitioner issues a Certificate of Completion, which confirms you met your obligations. Ask for it in writing, quoting your IVA reference, and check the Individual Insolvency Register to see your IVA recorded as completed.

Checking your credit file and the register

Once your My Debt Plan IVA has finished, check your credit file. Experian, Equifax and TransUnion must each give you your statutory credit report free of charge.

Look for the IVA recorded as completed and the accounts included in it updated to show it has ended. If anything is wrong, tell the agency: it must investigate and correct anything wrong, and your completion certificate is your evidence.

Search your name on the Individual Insolvency Register too. An IVA stays on your credit file for six years from the date it started, or until it ends if that is later.

Our guide, When does an IVA leave your credit file?, explains the date.

What's next: your Comeback Plan

With your IVA finished, the next step is your AfterMy Comeback Plan. Tell us the solution you finished, your key dates and your goals. It isn't an application, and the plan itself won't affect your credit score. AfterMy is not part of My Debt Plan: we're a credit broker, not a lender.
