How to contact StepChange about your IVA

StepChange Debt Charity runs its IVAs through StepChange Voluntary Arrangements. Its page for IVA clients lists the IVA team phone line and a postal address. In Northern Ireland, StepChange says an insolvency practitioner, rather than StepChange VA, contacts you and manages your IVA, so take questions to the practitioner named in your IVA paperwork.

Getting your StepChange completion certificate

StepChange's IVA clients page says you should be told when your IVA is complete, and its IVA guide says any leftover debts are written off at the end. Once your final payment has gone, ask the IVA team to confirm completion in writing, quoting your IVA reference, and keep the letter.

Then search your name on the Individual Insolvency Register to check your IVA shows as completed.

Checking your credit file and the register

Each of the three credit reference agencies, Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, must provide your statutory credit report free. Get all three once your StepChange IVA has ended and check that the IVA shows as completed and the debts included in it are updated.

An agency must investigate and correct anything wrong, so send a copy of your completion certificate with any dispute. Check the Individual Insolvency Register under your name as well.
